Finances
The income of the Society from regular operations consists of payments by individual sponsors, donations and contributions, income from the sale of handicrafts and other products, and a development-cooperation grant from Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs covering the years 2012-2014. In 2009 the support paid through the Society per child in euros exceeded the per capita GDP of Zimbabwe.
Working in Zimbabwe presents many challenges. The country's economy is still in deep recession. At times there have been major problems getting school accessories, outfits, food supplies and even essential building materials on schedule. Fluctuating costs affect our financial planning and activities.
The Society is run by persons with sound expertise in financial and project management. The long and fruitful relationship with the authorities in Zimbabwe and Dzivarasekwa has been a key to our success so far. The finances of the project are monitored by authorised public accountants in Zimbabwe and Finland. Administrative costs in both countries are well below the recommended limits set by Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
